Happy Australia Day ♥

Happy Australia Day ♥

Happy Australia Day…

Hope most of you had a dry and safe day.  It’s been very wet here in Queensland over the past few days with many celebration/festivals cancelled and parts of NSW are having their fair share of the big wet!  Hope it didn’t hamper too many celebrations and that you had a good day!

As I’ve talked about here , I listened to the Hottest 100 on Triple J and most of the songs I voted for came in and I actually enjoyed the countdown from 100-20 more than the top twenty itself (slightly disappointed).  But I was really happy with the top 8.  And of course I knew Gotye would get #1 – no surprises there!  Well done to Wally and Kimbra.  I thought it would be a battle between Gotye and Matt Corby but Matt came in at #3 and I was pretty stoked that The Black Keys made #2.  Hoorah!  Click here for the full list.

Anyway, that’s it for another year – until the album release.  I love the Hottest 100 –it’s celebrated on Australia Day, it’s music, it’s Triple J and many of the artists are Australian and damn fine ones at that. And here’s No: 1 – Enjoy  ♥

And just for something different here is Matt Corby’s ‘Like a Version’ of the #2 spot for ‘The Black Keys – Lonely Boy’.  It’s not the pumpy, rock out version of the brilliant Black Keys but it’s pretty brilliant just the same.  Let me know what you think…

Midnight rambler about to curl up with iPod and Triple J as have just received another one of those creepy, severe storm alerts for the northern suburbs and Moreton bay in which I live…Here we go again!

3 days, 22 hours to go…then times up!

Have you voted yet?  Don’t worry – you still have time but you better be quick and remember just by voting your entry goes into the draw for  that very cool prize of going to every festival or gig supported by Triple J for the whole of 2012!  Missed previous posts about this – more info here. / and here

Here is my top ten in no particular order.  So many I wanted on the list but had to cut, it was difficult to narrow it down.  How did you get on?  What is your top ten?

Here’s one song that didn’t make the list but wished it had.  It will be available on the side bar for the rest of the week as well.  Enjoy!

Another cool video :)

What’s your favourite song of 2011?

What’s your favourite song of 2011?

Take part in the world’s biggest musical democracy! Listen to triple j on Australia Day to celebrate with sunshine, BBQs, good company + the best music of 2011.

Well it’s that time of year again (well at least for all those Triple J supporters) I could say if you’re not – then skip this post but then I think you are cheating yourself.  Do you support Australian music?  (No, it’s not all about Australian music but hey, we’re pretty damn cool in the music scene) Do you support emerging artists?  Do you like a bloody good rockin Australia Day party?  If you answered YES to at least one then keep reading :)

It’s official – it’s the countdown to the Hottest 100. Voting closes on the 16th January and the countdown is on the 26th January 2012.  If you go on over to the site you can do lots of cool things like sharing in the usual social media way which will give you updates and you can ‘shout out’ by way of discussion and register your party here in OZ!   And that’s not all – just by registering your party you could WIN a whole heap of awesome stuff.

Oh and for all of those expats living elsewhere (lucky peeps) well you guyz don’t miss out coz you can listen to it on demand to suit your own time zone part-y).   Which reminds me don’t forget to check out what time it starts in your state.

The Year in review is a great way to catch up and remember some of the cool music that hit the airways.  The Hottest 100 has been going since 1989 but I’ve been following since 1994 – I was out of the country a LOT between 1984 – 1994 (oh, them were the daze)  Here’s some history and stats to look at – oh, and you will see why supporting Australian music is really, very cool.

Okay, I’ve done my rant on music for the week – NOW GET VOTING!  And don’t forget to tell me who you voted for…

***Pssst – check out the side bar – new song :) and yep, Australian band, Jagwa Ma from Sydney.  If you are familiar with the Lost Valentino’s then this is Jono Ma (guitarist) and his debut single – Come Save Me.  Visually it’s awesome, lyrics are great and the drumming…well need I say more! Oh, what the heck – I’m gonna post it here as well.  Let me know what you think  :)

Midnight rambler preparing for hot summer daze, barefeet, champagne (yeah I rock in style) and dancing and singing and having a great time on Australia day!
